I. GENERIC DESCRIPTION
The Professional Development Specialist is responsible for the professional development of the Center and Combination Education staff. He/she will participate in the implementation of professional development plans, provide individualized coaching and facilitate learning communities.
II. SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION
A. Essential Functions
Adhere to and be able to articulate Program philosophy, Head Start Performance Standards, Head Start Service Area Plans, personnel and administrative policies, Agency Mission Statement, Blood Borne Pathogens Policy, Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) Policy, and Data Privacy and Affirmative Action Policies; and utilize when performing responsibilities.
Adhere to and be able to articulate Minnesota Child Care Licensing regulations 9503 245A across all center settings.
Conduct any Federal, State or internally required assessments as assigned.
Provide direction to maintain compliance with policies and regulations pertinent to job.
Support the Mission of the Agency.
Attend staff meetings, and participate in training programs offered by the Agency.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in performing responsibilities.
Be an active team member with co-workers and partners, in accomplishing Program goals, objectives and assignments.
Maintain all applicable required records and submit all applicable reports, data entry and paperwork in a timely manner as required by supervisor.
Demonstrate appropriate adult/child interaction consistent with established Early Childhood Best Practices.
Act as a resource for all assigned staff.
Provide individual coaching as needed or requested that focusses on effective curricula implementation, knowledge of the content in Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (birth-5), providing effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, supporting dual language learners as appropriate, addressing challenging behaviors, preparing children for transitions, and improving child outcomes for all children.
Participate in developing appropriate in-service, child development and pre-service training session.
Facilitate small group learning communities that focus on effective curricula implementation, knowledge of the content in Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (birth-5) and Minnesota Early Learning Outcomes, providing effective and nurturing teacher-child interactions, supporting dual language learners as appropriate, addressing challenging behaviors, preparing children for transitions, and improving child outcomes for all children.
Follow Practice Based Coaching model.
Maintain CLASS Certification.
Conduct CLASS Observations.
Team with supervisors regarding staff progress.
Ensure ongoing communication between program director, staff supervisors and any other relevant staff.
Utilize assessment data to drive coaching strategies aligned with program performance goals.
Develop Professional Development Plans for Center Based Education staff.
Possess a working knowledge of all program curricula, assessment, and monitoring tools.
Participate in Program recruitment activities.
III. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field.
Must possess knowledge in adult learning styles.
Must have ability to communicate verbally and in writing with adults as well as children.
Must have willingness to work in classroom environments.
Must have leadership, administrative and communication skills in order to coach staff.
Must be physically able to relate to and manage children on an individual and group basis.
Must have the ability to be flexible.
Must be able to meet the travel requirement of the position including occasional travel out of the service area for meetings, workshops, conferences, overnights, etc.
Is subject to a Criminal Background Check, the results of which are acceptable to the Agency
Maintain CLASS Reliability.
IV. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS

Requires occasional light lifting up to fifty (50) pounds; display sound lifting and safety habits.
Extensive periods of travel via vehicle or public transportation, including air travel.
Stationary sitting for extended periods of time.
